Virtual Tour of an Amtrak Superliner
I found these links on the Amtrak Unlimited discussion site. Many of my friends ask "What's it like inside the train?" Well, here are some virtual reality examples of exactly what it's like. I've only linked to the tours that I will have access to.
Come on... try it... it's a lot of fun!
The Vestibule - the vestibule area is on the lower level of the sleeper cars. With a door on either side of the train and a baggage storage area, it's the first thing an Amtrak traveler will encounter. Also on the lower level are 4 roomettes, a family bedroom, a handicap accessible bedroom, three bathrooms and a shower/changing room. The stairs from level 2 deliver you to the vestibule.
The Sleeper Car - the second level of the sleeper car has 10 roomettes, 4 bedrooms and a bathroom. At the top of the stairs is a coffee station and usually an ice chest and fruit juice station, although I've heard that these are not on all routes.
A Roomette - is basically 2 seats that face each other beside a picture window with a door and curtain for privacy. The two seats become the lower bunk and there is a pull-down berth above. The Sleeping Car Attendant is responsible for making up and breaking down the bunks, and prefer you not do it yourself.
Roomette - daytime configuration
Roomette - nighttime configuration
The Restrooms - are adequate, hardly luxurious, but are usually well maintained by the attendant. Bedrooms have their own toilet facility, so the restrooms are mostly for the roomette passengers.
The Dining Car - When it's time to eat head to the dining car and wait to be seated. Lunch and dinner are by reservation, breakfast is first come first served. They always do their best to accommodate every passenger who wants to eat, though. Sleeper car passengers may also choose to have their meals served in their rooms. The sleeping car attendant will coordinate with the Dining Car Attendant to make this happen.
The Sightseer Lounge - Designed for optimal viewing of the spectacular scenery there are several parts to the SSL.
The Table Section - with tables and bench seating and power outlets at each table.
The Lookout Section - comfy chairs facing directly out the floor to ceiling windows
The Lounge Section - sofa-style seating for conversations in small groups.
The Lounge Cafe - if you get a craving for a nosh between meals head to the Lounge Cafe on the lower level of the Sightseer Lounge car. All manner of snacks and beverages, including alcohol, can be purchased here. Also provided are tables with bench seating.
